Q: WHAT IS A GOOD GERMAN SHEPHERD BREEDER

A: This is a questions that many people like to skip when searching for a puppy. More and more people get 2 German Shepherds and breed them. I am so disgusted by these people. When you ask them why they breed they say "because I wanted my female to have a litter" or "the pedigree is full of German Dogs".... I could go on and on. You should only breed
for one reason and one reason only, and that is to improve the breed. German Shepherds are extremely intelligent dogs that can perform any task given to them. The German Shepherd is also being destroyed by these irresponsible backyard breeders. Ask them about hips and they will tell you that there dog runs and jumps all day so he/she has good hips. It
is impossible to tell by watching your dog run and jump. A good breeder will only breed dogs that have certified hips. Not only that, their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents..... will have certified hips. Every dog in the pedigree no matter how far you research it will have certified hips. That is the FCI breed standard that we go by. On top of that every dog in a good breeding program is titled or is an active working dog. You also have to match up the blood lines correctly. If you don't you can make a big mistake.

There's a lot more to breeding than just putting two dogs together to have puppies.

Breeding is done for the betterment of the breed, NOT PROFIT, not because you want a playmate for your dog, not because you feel you dogs' life will be fulfilled, nor to show your children the miracle of birth or because you think it would be fun to have just 1 litter. Breeding is done for the goal of producing puppies of superior quality, puppies that personify the breed, with the right conformation, free from any genetic health problems and excellent temperament. To achieve superior puppies both parents have to be of superior quality themselves. Both parents should have earned the titles. Both parents and ancestors should be free of any genetic health problems that run in the breed. You need to know the background of both dogs, plus your dog and the sire need to have health testing done to make sure neither one has any genetic problems. If your dog was bought from a pet store, it is NOT breed quality. To breed two dogs that have the same genetic health problems, they're intensified in the puppies and all you'll be breeding is heartache. Just because your dog is cute, has a functioning uterus and a registered pure bred, does not mean it's of breed quality or free of genetic health problems. You think you're going to make profit off breeding your dog? Till you title your dog, do all the prebreed testing, pay for stud fees, prenatal exams, sonagrams, you've already spent a pretty penny and the puppies haven't even hit the floor yet.. Then come the puppies and with that, there's the cost of the extra food, vet visits, vaccines, being wormed and if your dog during delivery has any complications, you can add in the cost of an emergency visit to the vets for a ceasarian section. What happens when you advertise your puppies and you get no calls? Do you have the extra room and finances to raise this litter or will you pack them up and haul them off to the shelter to add to the already tragically high amount of puppies waiting for homes because other people had the bright idea to breed their dog? Can you afford the time off work to help care for this litter? What if your dog abandons and refuses to care for the litter or tries to kill all the puppies?? Are you willing to get up every 2 hours to bottle feed them and stimulate their bottom so they can relieve themselves?

Q: At what age may I visit my puppy?

A: We know that you are very excited and you want to visit and hold your puppy. However, it is very
important that the mother dog is not going to be stressed out and young puppies are very susceptible to
viruses and diseases. Visitors can carry it on their clothes and shoes. One mistake can cost the life of all the puppies. We post pictures of the puppies on a weekly basis and you may come and visit when they had their first vaccine @ 7 weeks of age. Please do not visit any pet stores or other breeders before you enter our property. This is very important because you can bring viruses to our facility. Our dogs health and well being is the most important thing to us and we have made exceptions in the past only to find out that we have put our puppies and adult dogs in great danger. We hope you understand the importance of this issue as it is in the best interest of your new companion.

Q: How much of a deposit is required to hold a puppy?

A: We require a deposit in the amount of $500 to hold a puppy. The deposit can be rolled over to another litter in the event of unforseen circumstances .  If you place a deposit before a litter is born and the gender you seek is not available you can then roll your deposit over to another litter.

Q: How long will you keep the dog I purchased for free of charge?

A: We will keep the dog here for 7 days free of charge after the date of agreed pick up or shipping. There is a $20 boarding fee per night starting on the eighth day unless there is an agreement.  If the buyer refuses to take delivery thirty days after purchase, the dog will be considered abandoned and will be offered for sale and all monies paid will be forfeited.

Q: What type of registration comes with my Alert K9 German Shepherd Puppy?

A: Either AKC limited registration or AKC Full registration. We offer the option of Limited AKC registration and a discount off of the Full Registration purchase price for our clients who want pets only. This discount is to offset the cost of the spay or neuter procedure as we here at Alert K9 Shepherds promote responsible pet ownership.

Q: Do you ship puppies?

A: Yes, we do. We offer shipping to your nearest airport via airlines if preferred.
